Nathan Myhrvold is an inventor and killer of mosquitos with lasers. The mosquito death ray demoed in the video below was built in-house by Myhrvold’s company Intellectual Ventures Lab from parts purchased on eBay.
Every 43 seconds, a child dies from malaria. Given the constraints of current methods for fighting the disease, Myhrvold put the scientific minds of his company to the problem of eradicating the mosquitoes themselves. The lasers recognize and track the insects, measuring the frequency of the wingbeats to determine their gender.
I wanted to setup a simple webfinger server for myself today and there was nothing around so I wrote my own - it's really basic:
http://github.com/darron/webfinger-sinatra
Grab it and improve - you can see it in action here:
http://froese.org/.well-known/host-meta
http://webfinger.froese.org/webfinger/darron@froese.org
Grab it, fork it, do whatever you want with it - let me know if there's any questions.
This is a docudrama about Webfinger. Put your email address into the box above, click the button, and take a peek behind the curtains. We promise we won't send you any email, nor will we share your address with anyone. via webfinger.org Stick your Gmail address in the box and see what pops up - it will be anything on your Google Profile page. Interesting.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asserted Thursday that Iran has produced its first batch of higher-grade enriched uranium and declared that his country is now a "nuclear state," although he continued to deny that Iran has any intention of building nuclear weapons. via washingtonpost.com The type of technology they're using makes no sense unless they're developing nuclear weapons.
It's only a matter of time until Israel does what they think is necessary to survive - especially since Ahmadinejad threatened to wipe them out again today.
The bottom line is that Iran continues to delay the West, in a crisis that began when secret Iranian nuclear plants were uncovered in 2002. Since then, Iran has reacted to the leverage applied against it by increasing its atomic work. It claims the right to enrich under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that same logic would give it the right to increase the level of enrichment. Washington's current strategy of holding out for engagement while moving toward sanctions may not be enough to break this cycle.
Scam-Detective: How did you find victims for your scams? John: First you need to understand how the gangs work. At the bottom are the "foot soldiers", kids who spend all of their time online to find email addresses and send out the first emails to get people interested. When they receive a reply, the victim is passed up the chain, to someone who has better English to get copies of ID from them like copies of their passport and driving licenses and build up trust.

As social media has become a game changer for industries across the board, you can bet the experts at this year’s TED conference will have their sights set on peeling back the hype and getting at the core of what social technology has in store for this year and beyond.
Perhaps the best part of the TED conferences is that videos of the talks are archived and free to view right on the organization’s website.
