The Obama Administration Opens Formal Contacts With the Muslim Brotherhood - By Andrew C. McCarthy - The Corner - National Review Online

Reuters reports that the Obama administration has established a policy of formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is the world’s most important Islamist organization. It is openly, unabashedly committed to the destruction of the United States and the West. In typical Obama fashion, this disastrous decision to engage America’s avowed enemies has been couched as the mere continuation of prior policy: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is reported to have confirmed that the U.

Cookie law deferred for one year | This is going to be a pain if it applies outside the EU.

The EU's Privacy and Communications Directive comes into force on 26 May. It requires user's consent before using cookies - the text files that help organise and store browsing information. Technically all firm must comply with the law but the UK has said that it needs more time to find a workable solution. The government said that it was looking for a "business-friendly" solution and believed in light-touch regulation.

Here’s why Stephen Harper really won - The Globe and Mail

Anyway, they argue, it really wasn’t such a victory after all. Mr. Harper, they say, failed to broaden his base (even though he conquered Fortress Toronto, where he’d always been shut out), and won only 40 per cent of the popular vote (just like Jean Chrétien and Bill Davis). One commentator compared his win to George W. Bush’s “stolen” election of 2000. If you want to understand why Mr. Harper loathes the mainstream media, look no further.

My Take - Is Judas in heaven or hell? God only knows | Totally agree.

What is interesting to me is that in the upper room where Jesus and his disciples shared their last supper together, the 12 disciples all talked about how they were so great. Both Peter and Judas committed the same sin.

The common face of totalitarianism is not, as cinema often depicts, that of uber-Nazis marching in satanic rows, or of cultured madmen planning the extinction of millions with violin music softly seething in the background. Its quotidian face is one of petty, arbitrary, unappealable abuse. For the average man life under tyranny consists of being precisely zero in a society that can do anything — anything at all — to him.

Reconsidering the Goldstone Report on Israel and war crimes | Interesting mea culpa.

Some have suggested that it was absurd to expect Hamas, an organization that has a policy to destroy the state of Israel, to investigate what we said were serious war crimes. It was my hope, even if unrealistic, that Hamas would do so, especially if Israel conducted its own investigations. At minimum I hoped that in the face of a clear finding that its members were committing serious war crimes, Hamas would curtail its attacks.

Yemen President Saleh Nears Deal to Resign - WSJ.com | Another one bites the dust.

Yemen's president and the country's top general are hashing out a settlement in which both men would resign within days, people familiar with the situation said, raising crucial questions of who will end up leading a key, though embattled, U.S. counterterrorism ally. The outlines of a peaceful transition, to a civilian-led transitional government, emerged amid rising tension over the standoff between Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and pro-democracy protesters backed by Gen.
